About Frogmore

A pretty village on a quiet tidal creek between Kingsbridge and Dartmouth, holidays in Frogmore encompass the warmth of a friendly village with the peace and quiet of the Devon countryside. The village takes its name from its ancient history, quite literally meaning 'pool of frogs'. Today, it is home to scenic holiday cottages and a superb pub, The Globe Inn, known for its excellent local food as well as traditional hospitality.

While holidays in Frogmore can be easily spent whiling away the days on long countryside walks, grabbing breakfast from the local bakery and snuggling up with a book in the evening, or even taking in the views with a glass of wine from the garden terrace, it is also well positioned to explore the beauty, activities and adventures of the surrounding South Hams villages as well. The market town of Kingsbridge, the historic harbour at Dartmouth and the famed sailing town of Salcombe are all just an easy journey in the car.

The South Hams is well known for its collection of beautiful beaches, the closest of which to Frogmore is Slapton Sands. A long stretch of shingle beach that disappears into the distance, Torcross sits next to Slapton Ley, a picturesque nature reserve that plays host to some of the UK's rare species of plants and creatures. The beach is flanked by a small collection of cafes and restaurants, and the location is also of historic significance. There is a World War II Sherman Tank still in residence by the car park, having been reclaimed from Start Bay, a memorial to those who died during Operation Tiger in 1944. It is also only a short distance from Blackpool Sands - an award-winning beach sheltered by pines and evergreens.

As food is very much a part of the Devon experience, a trip to Stokeley Farm Shop, a short drive from Frogmore, is definitely worth a visit. A little haven of the best artisan foods combined with a contemporary cafe, it is a real favourite amongst locals. If you meander further along the coastline you will be greeted by the cafes and boutique stores in Kingsbridge, and then a little further to Salcombe, where you will be greeted by the best local crab sandwiches you could ask for.
