About West Charleton

A holiday in West Charleton offers a picturesque spot on the banks of the Salcombe Estuary, just a stone's throw from the market town of Kingsbridge and with all the area's beaches and attractions within easy reach.

In the village itself you'll find a pretty nature reserve, a family friendly pub, The Charleton, serving excellent pub meals, and in neighbouring East Charleton, a well-stocked shop, fuel station and outdoor leisure store selling everything you'll need on your holiday, from crocs to kayaks.

A few minutes by car brings you to the market town of Kingsbridge with its wide selection of independent shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants, including the waterside Crabshell Inn, a great spot for a meal or drinks on the terrace overlooking the estuary. A short drive further on, you'll find a choice of beautiful sandy beaches at Salcombe, Thurlestone, Hope Cove and Bantham.

Take the coastal road in the other direction from your cottage and you'll find yourself at Torcross, the seaside village at the southern end of the stunning 2km Slapton Sands beach. This is a lovely spot to swim or launch a paddleboard, then reward yourself with fish & chips from The Start Bay Inn, best eaten sitting on the sea wall as the sun goes down.

Other places to visit nearby include the picture postcard villages of South Pool with its excellent pub, The Millbrook Inn, and East Prawle, famous for its traditional summer fair. For those wanting to stretch their legs, you're just a few miles from the South West Coast Path where you can experience some of the region's most stunning coastal scenery and wildlife.

With so many of South Devon's most popular towns, beaches and coastal walks just a short drive away, you can spend every day of your holiday in West Charleton discovering somewhere new.
