About Ugborough

Set in the foothills of Dartmoor, Ugborough is a traditional Devon village filled with pretty, old cottages and country pubs. If you're hoping to explore the stunning South Hams countryside but want to avoid the summer crowds, a holiday in Ugborough could be the perfect spot.

Keen walkers, dog owners and active families will love exploring the rugged expanses, granite tors and ancient wooded valleys of Dartmoor National Park, just a stone's throw from Ugborough. One of our favourite things to do while on holiday in Ugborough is pack a flask of hot chocolate and climb to the top of nearby Ugborough Beacon for spectacular panoramic views of the South Devon countryside, passing free roaming Dartmoor ponies on your way. If cycling is your thing, or you're looking for a more level, accessible walk, set off on the Puffing Billy track, which follows an old tramway line on the southern fringes of Dartmoor. You can hire bikes from Puffing Billy Cycles in Wrangaton, just two miles from Ugborough. Wrangaton Golf Club also sits on the southern slopes of Dartmoor, and makes for a unique round of golf thanks to its moorland holes and the occasional flock of wandering sheep.

After all that exercise, Ugborough's village inns are a welcome sight. The Anchor Inn and the Ship Inn are characterful, old pubs where you can enjoy real ales, delicious dinners and Sunday roasts.

Ugborough sits just two miles away from the A38 Devon Expressway, making it easy to explore South Devon's beautiful beaches and popular market towns. Within twenty minutes you can reach the golden sands of Bigbury on Sea, Bantham beach, Thurlestone and Hope Cove, while it's an easy 30 minute drive to Plymouth city centre.

A holiday in Ugborough makes a brilliant base for those who want to spend their days discovering Dartmoor's wild, natural beauty whilst still being within easy reach of the coast.
