About Tuckenhay

If you're searching for a tranquil holiday destination close to the stunning South Devon coastline then Tuckenhay fits the bill. The pace of village life is as slow and melodic as the tides that ebb and flow in the creek, yet you're still only a few miles from the arts, culture, restaurants and shops to be found in Totnes, as well as the huge choice of beaches and activities that draw holidaymakers to the area.

Tuckenhay sits on the banks of Bow Creek, a tidal inlet of the majestic River Dart and is accessed down tiny lanes lined with high hedgerows. The picture postcard cottages and two excellent pubs line the river bank and enjoy beautiful views upstream and across the wooded valley. Holidays in Tuckenhay revolve around the water - either relaxing by it with a cold beer at the Maltsters Arms, or watching the children splash and play downstream by the Watermans Arms. The creek is also the perfect place to launch a kayak or paddleboard at high tide or take a guided trip in a Canadian canoe up the beautiful River Dart with Canoe Adventures.

The arts and culture hub of Totnes is just a few miles away but feels worlds apart from sleepy Tuckenhay, with it colour markets, quirky shops and excellent independent restaurants and cafes. Alternatively you can head down river to historic Dartmouth where the narrow cobbled streets are full of galleries, shops and cafes. Here you can visit Dartmouth Castle or Britannia Royal Naval College, hop on a boat down to pretty Dittisham or Agatha Christie's beloved Greenaway House, or get out on the water in a dinghy, kayak or paddleboard.

From Tuckenhay, you're also just a few miles from the many family-friendly beaches that the South Hams is famous for, including picturesque Blackpool Sands, or the wide sandy beaches at Thurlestone and Bantham.

Whether you want to spend your summer exploring South Devon's beautiful beaches and bustling old towns or would rather winter walks and cosy country pubs, holidays in Tuckenhay are idyllic all year round.
