About Strete

The cliff top village of Strete sits on the coastal road just a short drive from the historic naval town of Dartmouth, surrounded by beaches and some of the region's most beautiful scenery. The magnificent 2km golden arc of Slapton Sands backed by the freshwater lake and nature reserve at Slapton Ley are within walking distance, or you're just a short hop by car from the blue flag beach at Blackpool Sands where you'll find safe swimming, water sports and an excellent cafe. Nestled in between are tiny coves accessed via the South West Coast Path, but if walking isn't your thing, the drive alone along this stretch of coast will reward you with some of the region's most stunning views.

The village of Strete is made up of a cluster of traditional cottages and houses along with a chapel, village shop and choice of places to eat. The widely renowned Laughing Monk fine dining restaurant is housed in Strete's old schoolhouse where you'll find an innovative menu packed with local seafood. Alternatively, the family friendly Kings Arms is a great place to enjoy a drink or something to eat whilst enjoying the panoramic sea views from the rear garden. Further afield you'll soon come to the quaint village of Slapton with two more excellent pubs to try, or head to Torcross at the westerly end of Slapton Sands to enjoy takeaway fish and chips sitting on the sea wall.

A day trip to historic Dartmouth is also a must during your holiday, with its cobbled streets, quirky shops, cafes and art galleries. Here you can visit Dartmouth Castle, hop on a boat to picture-postcard Dittisham, go crabbing or mackerel fishing, or take a trip on a steam train before heading back to your cosy cottage.

Whether you want to spend your days relaxing on beautiful, family-friendly beaches or setting off on active adventures along stunning coastal paths, a holiday in Strete is hard to beat.
