About South Milton

A small, pretty village set two miles inland from the beach, holidays in South Milton are perfect for those looking for a seaside break without the summer crowds. Here you can stay in a characterful cottage surrounded by peaceful countryside yet reach the coast in a matter of minutes.

The long, golden stretch of South Milton Sands is one of the most popular beaches in the South Hams. With plenty of rock pools, calm waters and seasonal lifeguard cover, it's a brilliant spot for family days at the beach, and being dog-friendly year round, every member of the family can come too. During the summer months you can hire stand up paddle boards and kayaks and, if the tide allows, paddle through the iconic arch of Thurlestone Rock.

One of our favourite things to do during a holiday in South Milton is book a table at the Beach House, a beach-shack style restaurant perched above the sand dunes, and tuck into delicious, fresh seafood whilst watching the sunset behind Thurlestone Rock. The Beach House also serves breakfasts, lunches and takeaway drinks and ice creams.

From the beach, you can join the South West Coast Path and follow the headlands to Thurlestone and Bantham in one direction or Hope Cove, Bolberry Down and Soar Mill Cove in the other direction. No matter which way you turn, you'll be treated to spectacular coastal views.

Not far from the village is South Milton Ley Reserve, a large freshwater reedbed. Visited by up to 200 bird species in a typical year, twitchers and wildlife enthusiasts staying in South Milton should make sure to visit.

Located halfway between the stylish sailing mecca of Salcombe and the popular market town of Kingsbridge, it's only a 15-minute drive from South Milton to both towns, where you'll find a variety of shops, supermarkets, pubs and restaurants.

A holiday in South Milton offers you the chance to relax in a beautiful countryside setting whilst being just a stone's throw away from the region's best beaches.
