About South Allington

Holidays in South Allington revolve around the great outdoors with lots to do within a few miles of your doorstep. The hamlet itself, made up of a smattering of stone and thatched cottages, is found down quiet country lanes in a beautiful secluded valley, perfect for those wanting to get away from it all.

The nearest beach is at Lannacombe, a stunning sandy cove with safe swimming and rockpools. Being off the beaten track the beach is never busy, and is a beautiful spot to spend lazy days sunbathing or swimming, paddle boarding or kayaking. There are only a few parking spaces here so come early, or it's an easy walk down pretty lanes from your holiday cottage.

For those who enjoy walking, you can pick up the South West Coast Path at Lannacombe which leads to further beautiful beaches, including secluded Mattiscombe Sands below Start Point lighthouse. Following the path in the opposite direction takes you through stunning coastal and rural scenery to the village of East Prawle where you can reward yourself with a drink or something to eat at the famously quirky Pigs Nose Inn. For families with small children or those who don't fancy walking, East Prawle can easily be accessed in just a few minutes by car, as can the pretty market town of Kingsbridge, where you'll find a busy high street filled with shops, cafés and restaurants, as well as water sports hire, a cinema and leisure centre.

Another great day out is to jump on the ferry to Salcombe from nearby East Portlemouth. In Salcombe you'll find golden sandy beaches, and some of the best fresh seafood, pubs, bars and restaurants in the area. You'll also find a high street packed full of designer boutiques and nautical shops, and no shortage of rib rides, boat trips and water sports hire.

A holiday in South Allington offers a peaceful escape from the daily grind in a truly beautiful and remote countryside setting, whilst only a short drive from the coast.
