About Kingston

Nestled amongst the fields between Modbury and the River Erme, holidays in Kingston combine the peace and quiet of a small rural village with the breathtaking beauty of the South Devon coastline.

The village is close to the uniquely beautiful beach at Bigbury on Sea, where the tide comes in from both sides and a stretch of sand connects the mainland to Burgh Island. Famed for its 1930s hotel, the island has been an inspiration for Agatha Christie's novels, and is also home to a pint sized 13th century pub, The Pilchard Inn, which is well worth popping into, whatever the weather.

Kingston is perfectly located for enjoying some of the country's most scenic walks. Stroll along the dramatic cliffs and take in the Erme estuary, or head inland across fields and woodland, whichever you choose it is one of the great activities that the region has to offer.

From Kingston, you're within easy reach of plenty of beautiful beaches. As well as Bigbury on Sea, you're also close to Wonwell beach, an unspoilt beach lining the River Erme estuary, Thurlestone (next to a links golf course) and Bantham, famed for its surf. For a particularly special experience, head to the Flete Estate, home to Mothecombe Beach which is one of the more secluded beaches in the region, and is home to the Sunday Times acclaimed School House restaurant.

South Devon is well known for its superb local food so when on holiday in Kingston be sure to leave plenty of room for rustic lunches and seafood fine dining. The village has its own traditional pub, The Dolphin Inn, serving all the pub classics. Pop to Aune Valley and its accompanying cafe just outside Loddiswell for superb local meat, sample artisan beers from the Salcombe Brewery, and tuck into delicious freshly caught seafood at The Oyster Shack restaurant, a few miles away from Kingston.
