About Holbeton

With its narrow streets, thatched cottages and centuries-old stone houses, holidays in Holbeton can feel like taking a step back in time. This beautiful, old village is tucked away amongst steep, tumbling hills at the head of the River Erme estuary. Somewhat off the beaten track, holidays in Holbeton are the kind where you can wake up to the sound of silence and spend your days exploring the stunning surroundings at your own pace.

Within the village you'll find a well-stocked shop and post office where you can pick up the essentials, and two traditional village pubs complete with open fires, real ales and home-cooked meals.

Less than two miles away from the village is the stunning, unspoilt beach at Mothecombe. A must for anyone staying in Holbeton, this pretty, sheltered beach has featured in many films and television programmes - Sense and Sensibility, Hornblower and Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca to name a few. With soft sand and clear water, Mothecombe beach is popular for family picnics and paddling along the Erme estuary. There's also a brilliant little cafe restaurant, The School House, which specialises in delicious, fresh seafood dishes. From Mothecombe you can join the South West Coast Path and set off on spectacular cliff top walks.

Only a few miles away you'll find the idyllic sailing villages of Noss Mayo and Newton Ferrers perched on the banks of the River Yealm. Here you can take to the calm estuary waters and try your hand at sailing, rowing or stand up paddling, follow the coastal paths to pretty, hidden coves, or enjoy a drink at one of the three waterside pubs. For quirky shops, butchers, delis, pubs and restaurants, the Georgian market town of Modbury is only four miles from Holbeton, while Plymouth city centre, with its array of high street shops and restaurants, historic streets and impressive waterfront, is an easy 30 minute drive.

Holidays in Holbeton are perfect for those looking to get away from it all and take their time to explore South Devon's stunning coastline.
