A hub for the arts, culture and music, it's easy to spend a day browsing the independent galleries and shops that line the steep high street, stopping for something delicious from one of the street food sellers in the market.

Taking one of the lanes heading out of Harbertonford, you're quickly surrounded by beautiful Devon countryside - visit the pretty villages of Ashprington or Tuckenhay, both with excellent country pubs, or take a tour of nearby Sharpham Vineyard, set in an idyllic location on a bend of the majestic River Dart. Further south on the main road you'll come to the historic port of Dartmouth where you can visit Dartmouth Castle or Britannia Royal Naval College, hop on a ferry to Dittisham or Agatha Christie's holiday home, Greenaway House, or take to the water in a dinghy, kayak or paddleboard.

If you're looking for a day at the beach, within a short drive from Harbetonford you'll reach one of South Devon's most famous beaches, Blackpool Sands, as well as Slapton Sands, Thurlestone and Bantham.
