About Chillington

On the picturesque coastal road which links Kingsbridge and Dartmouth you'll find Chillington, a large, historic village which dates back to the Saxon times.

The village has a little shop and post office where you can pick up essential provisions, a bakery and an excellent village pub, The Bear and Blacksmith. The pub has a cosy yet contemporary feel, and serves a great value lunch and dinner menu, as well as coffees and cake from 10am. It's also one of the region's many dog-friendly pubs.

From the village, follow the coastal road for just a few miles and you'll arrive at Slapton Sands. This golden, pebbly beach is dog-friendly all year round, and is perfect for long walks, kayaking and tucking into fish and chips from the Start Bay Inn. Behind the beach you'll find Slapton Ley Nature Reserve, a large freshwater lake home to an abundance of wildlife. Take a leisurely stroll around the Ley and see how many species you can spot.

Here, in Torcross, you can pick up the South West Coast Path and walk for miles in either direction, taking in spectacular views of Start Bay. Head one way to discover Beesands, the lost village of Hallsands and Start Point Lighthouse, or one of Devon's best beaches, Blackpool Sands, when you head the opposite direction. There are also lots of walks from Chillington itself which is surrounded by rolling countryside, pretty woodland and the tranquil waters of Frogmore Creek.

Chillington is only a quick four-mile drive away from Kingsbridge, the heart of the South Hams. This lively, waterside market town offers an abundance of cafes, pubs, restaurants and shops, as well as two supermarkets. Stokeley Farm Shop in the neighbouring village of Stokenham is well worth a visit, where you can stock up on fresh, local produce to take back to your holiday cottage and cook up a feast.

A holiday in Chillington offers an excellent base for exploring the South Hams' beautiful coastline and pretty towns and villages.
