About Noss Mayo

Nestled 10 miles east of Plymouth, you couldn't feel further from the city in the little, waterside village of Noss Mayo. Lying on the banks of the beautiful Yealm estuary, Noss Mayo is a haven for sailing enthusiasts with its sheltered estuary and access to the Channel: It's great for both novices and experienced sailors.

The village itself is lined with quaint fishermen's cottages and joins the South West Coast Path, taking walkers up through Passage Woods and popping out on the clifftops. From here you get wonderful views back down the estuary and along the coastline. You can drop down to Cellar beach or walk round the headland heading east along The Warren to Stoke beach. You also have the option of taking the ferry across the estuary and walking the coast path towards Plymouth, or you can simply enjoy the creek and visit neighbouring Newton Ferrers.

The village itself has two pubs: The Swan Inn is a small traditional pub with a waterfront beer garden, whilst the Ship Inn is also water-side but is much larger and very welcoming. If you park by the Ship Inn please be warned that the car park is tidal; it is not unheard of for patrons to leave the pub and discover their cars have been submerged!

Noss Mayo is a fantastic place from which to explore the surrounding South Hams. There's a lovely dog friendly beach at short drive away at Mothecombe, or visit the Saturday Barrow Market at the quaint town of Modbury. Dartmoor is also within an easy car journey, and provides heaps of interesting places for you, and any four legged friends to enjoy.
